You can have an impact on your community, working side by side with the staff at the Ripon Police Department by working at the animal shelter or assisting the officers. Training will be provided for whichever area you choose to lend a hand.

The Volunteers In Police Services or VIPS as they are commonly known, are citizens over the age of 18, who donate their time to assist the Police Department in a variety of areas. These generous citizens enhance the Department’s ability to serve the community and are a vital part of the Police Department.
VIPS members receive training in many areas so that they may serve the community in a professional and effective manner. Some of these areas include:

  • Radio Skills
  • Traffic Control
  • Crime Scene Containment
  • Vacation Checks
  • Driver Awareness
  • Courtroom Testimony
  • Ethics
  • Welfare Checks
  • CPR
  • First Aide
  • Fingerprinting
  • Clerical Support

All applicants must submit a completed application, pass an oral review board, and complete a background check. Applications may be obtained at the Ripon Police Department. Applications are accepted on an continuous basis. Contact Lt. Sauer for further information.
