The Juvenile Traffic Diversion Program provides a ticket to education through enforcement of bicycle, pedestrian and other non-motor vehicle violations and includes education of juveniles and encouragement of safety practices through helmet distribution and support. When law enforcement officers issue a citation to youth under the age of 18 years. These youth may be offered the opportunity to attend a traffic safety class in lieu of paying the fines and fees associated with the ticket. The class reviews the law of the road with emphasis on pedestrian and bicycle safety.
Helmets are also distributed at the class for youth who need a helmet but cannot afford to purchase one.
