Local Business Owner Brings World-Class Training To Police Department

Local business owner Rick Van Unen approached Police Chief Ed Ormonde last summer, asking how he could help bring world-class training to his local police department. Mr. Van Unen and Chief Ormonde quickly came up with a game plan and Mr. Van Unen sprang into action providing funding and logistics support.

In July of 2016, Ripon officers completed two days of unique training conducted by Michael Janich, a nationally recognized self-defense expert. Training topics included defenses against edged-weapon attacks, handgun retention, de-escalation and boundary setting techniques.

This week, Ripon officers completed two days of intensive advanced officer training conducted by world renowned firearms expert, Massad Ayoob. Training topics included handgun retention, shoot-don’t shoot scenarios and wounded officer firearms drills.

The Ripon Police Department would like to thank Mr. Van Unen for providing these world-class training opportunities.
