Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested

Ripon Ca. – On 08-06-14, at approximately 0746 hours, Ripon officers responded to a 911 report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Ripona Market, located at 223 W. Washington Street.  Initial reports were that four armed gunmen had taken over the store.  Officers arrived on scene within minutes.

Ripon Police Chief Ed Ormonde spotted the suspects near the Main Street over cross.  The suspects fled the area on foot.  Chief Ormonde captured one suspect without incident.  Officers set up a perimeter in the 300 block of Manley Rd.  Citizens called in suspect sightings.  Officers used this information to move in on the suspects.  Two suspects attempted to break through the police perimeter on Manley Rd.  Multiple officers were involved in a foot pursuit of the suspects.  Lt. Steve Merchant arrested a second suspect in the 300 block of Manley Rd. without incident.  A third suspect was found hiding in a shed on Wells Ct.  He was taken into custody by Officer Kenny Steele without incident.

Detectives with Ripon’s Special Investigations Unit developed information that lead to the identity of the fourth suspect.  Detectives contacted a fourth suspect in the 4200 block of Eldenberry Court in Modesto.  The fourth suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives continued to gather information regarding a fifth suspect.  The fifth suspect was questioned at the Ripon Police Department. He was taken into custody without incident.

The following suspects were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges that included armed robbery, conspiracy, kidnapping, brandishing a firearm, and theft of a firearm.

The following suspects were booked into the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall: on charges that included armed robbery, conspiracy, kidnapping, brandishing a firearm, resisting arrest, and theft of a firearm.
