CITY OF RIPON POLICE OFFICER
Starting Salary: $54,501 – $66,246, up to 5% additional for Advanced POST Cert.
The City of Ripon is a family-oriented community located along the Stanislaus River in San Joaquin County. Our agency provides our officers with the opportunity to participate in numerous specialized assignments, including Investigations Unit, School Resource Officer, K9 Handler, SWAT, Bike & Quad Patrol, Drug & Gang Unit, Honor Guard, Explorer Program Instructor, Junior Police Academy Instructor, and Traffic Unit. We offer a take-home patrol car to officers that live in the City of Ripon.
The Position: Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, responsible for enforcement of State and Local laws and ordinances, preventative patrol, traffic enforcement, investigative assignments, and performs such other duties as may be required.
Qualifications: Education and Experience: Requires completion of high school or equivalent and proof of completion of P.O.S.T. Basic Academy. Supplemental College course work and degrees are desirable. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of police methods and procedures and the ability to translate this knowledge into proactive law enforcement work.
Physical Requirements: Applicants considered for employment must pass a physical and psychological examination process. Standard vision of 20/20 uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other. Additional Requirements: Possession of a valid California Drivers License. Must be eligible to work in the United States, and live within a 35 mile radius of the Ripon City Hall (18 months after hiring).
Benefits: The City provides medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits to all full-time employees and their dependants. Retirement: the city participates both in Social Security and the Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) for full-time police officers. Vacation: 10 days vacation at 1 year of service. 15 days @4years, 20 days @14 years, 25 days after 25 years. Holidays: 13 paid holidays per year. Sick Leave: 8 hours of sick leave are earned per month with unlimited accumulation. Uniform Allowance: Acomplete uniform is provided upon employment. Replacement allowance is $1,000 per year after completion of probationary period.
Selection Procedure: Applications are screened for completeness and minimum qualifications. Once screened, those candidates who are qualified will participate in an oral board and/or written test. An eligibility list will be established by ranking candidates according to their overall scores. The list will remain in effect for 1 year unless it is exhausted sooner, terminated, or extended by the City.
