Ripon Car Jacking Suspects Sentenced
Ripon Ca. – Two documented Ripon gang members have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms as a result of an attempted car jacking that occurred last summer.
On 08-03-13, two documented Ripon Norteno gang members attempted to car jack a vehicle in the 200 block of E. Frontage Rd. The victims’ 11 year old child was still in the car when the suspects jumped into it. The suspects assaulted the 11 year old child by striking him in the head. Concerned family members saw the suspects assaulting the child and they came to his rescue. The suspects fled the scene of the crime.
Ripon officers were on the scene within minutes. Suspect information was quickly developed and one suspect was taken into custody within 1 hour of the crime being reported. Further investigative leads were developed and a second suspect was identified. The Ripon Police Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU) located the second suspect and surveilled his movements. With the assistance of allied law enforcement agencies in StanislausCounty, the suspect was taken into custody without incident in a South Modesto grocery store parking lot.
The suspects, Salvador Junior Moya (24) of Ripon, and Luis Alejandro Machuca (21) of Ripon both received sentences in excess of 9 years in state prison for the attempted car jacking, that involved the assault on the victim’s child, and for their participation in a criminal street gang, during the commission of the crime.
Ripon SIU detectives would like to thank all of the concerned citizens who stood up to gang violence, and assisted them with this investigation. Because of the continued cooperation between Ripon citizens and their police department, these criminals were quickly taken into custody.
