WANTED FUGITIVE ARRESTED
Ripon, CA – The Ripon Police Department announced the arrest of a wanted suspect who reportedly stole a running vehicle, resisted arrest and fled from officers.
On 01-02-14, at approximately 2040 hours, RPD officers were dispatched to the Ripon Shell gas station (341 E. Main St.) regarding a stolen vehicle. A local citizen reportedly pulled up in front of the gas station, left his vehicle running, and went into the convenience store. A short time later, he exited the store and saw his vehicle had been stolen.
Ripon officers immediately began searching for the vehicle. Officers located the stolen vehicle behind the Ripon Fire Department. When officers attempted to take the suspect who was driving the stolen vehicle into custody, he reportedly backed the stolen vehicle into a patrol car, narrowly missing an officer. The suspect physically resisted arrest and he was able to flee on foot from the scene.
The case was turned over to Ripon’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), SIU detectives secured an arrest warrant for the suspect. On 01-07-14, SIU detectives located the wanted fugitive in the 700 block of Thrasher Avenue in Modesto Ca. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Charles Stephon Overturf Jr. (32) of Modesto was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on felony charges that included vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
